Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said while acting on specific inputs about smuggling of Narcotics in a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK09C-1179 with two persons on board identified as Amjid Mir S/o Mohammad Aslam Mir R/o Bijildar forward Jabdi and Mashkoor Ahmad Malik S/o Ali Yaar Malik R/o Hajitra, travelling from Teetwal towards Taad the Police alongwith concerned Magistrate at a checkpoint established near Bandi intercepted the said vehicle and during search recovered 2Kgs of Heroin like substance concealed in two packets were recovered from the said vehicle.
Stating that both the above named accused persons were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was seized, Stating therein further that a case under relevant sections of law and further investigation has been initiated.
Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and reiterated that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police in it’s statement also reiterated that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
