Rajouri: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Rajouri-Poonch Range claimed to have achieved a major success against the drug menace and said that seven drug peddlers have been booked under PITNDPS Act in the ongoing year 2022.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Rajouri Poonch Range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal said that war against drugs will continue with full might and police have taken stern actions against people involved in the crime.
Mughal while addressing a press conference at District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Mohammad Aslam and other officers, said that continuing the mission of war against drugs in Rajouri Poonch Range, J&K Police has achieved a major success in the year 2022.
Apart from the phenomenal increase in the seizure of banned contraband heroin, seven drug peddlers have been booked under PITNDPS Act, he said.
In district wise breakdown, DIG said that in Rajouri, 27 cases have been registered against 41 accused persons, out of which four main peddlers have been detained under PITNDPS Act for a period of one year, besides preventive actions under CrPC has been initiated against 210 accused or suspects.
He said that the seized drugs and narcotics substances made in these cases include heroine weighing 6.065 Kgs as compared to 2.6 Kg in 2021, Charas weighing 390 Grams, Poppy straw weighing 8.300 Kgs, Bhang 04 Kgs and Spasmo proxyvon capsule 300.
In District Poonch, 47 cases have been registered, against 59 peddlers while three main peddlers have been detained for one year under PITNDPS besides preventive action under CrPC has been initiated against 155 accused or suspects.
In Poonch, seizure includes heroin 106 kilograms, Poppy straw 62 kilograms, Tab Tramadol 9750 number.
In Rajouri Poonch range, a total of 74 cases have been registered with 100 arrests and seven detentions for one year under PITNDPS while preventive action has been initiated under CrPC against 365 accused and there is a huge increase in the seizure of heroin this year, DIG said.
He further urged the general public to share information with regard to drug peddling with Police through the helpline numbers active in both district Rajouri and Poonch (Rajouri: 9596047100 & Poonch: 9622003495).
He also emphasized that war against drugs will only be successful if the general public and all other stakeholders put their heads together and work in complete sync
