One-day Workshop on ‘Distt level Consultation on Peace Edu’ held at B’gam

114 Schools adopted by NGO ‘Save the Children’ at B’gam under the Peace Project initiative

Budgam :  A one day workshop on ‘District level Consultation on Peace Education’ was on Saturdayorganised by School Education department Budgam in collaboration with NGO ‘Save the Children’.

Besides, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Budgam, Mushtaq Ahmad, various prominent people were present, and among the guest lecturers were Dr.G M Dar professor at J&K IMPARD, Professor ShaziaManzoor HOD Social Sciences University of Kashmir, Professor TasneemMeena, Nelson Mandela Peace Conflict JamiaMilliaIslamia New Delhi and Kamal Goer Head Education ‘Save the Children’ National office.

On the occasion, various student participants threw light on different rights of children and thanked to the initiative taken under peace education to bring back school dropouts to school.

The CEO said that the motive of workshop is awareness about peace and education to be imparted in schools. He said so far 114 schools have been adopted by “Save the children” under the aegis of peace education project.

He said project seeks to improve educational, social, and Government protection by mobilising communities and will spearhead child protection awareness, safe school and peace building activities to be rolled out in schools and communities in the district.

The project seeks to introduce peace education in targeted schools and influence Government of J&K to introduce peace education in curriculum in all schools across J&K, added Sharief Ahmad one of founding members of “Save the children” NGO. He said project aims to provide children uninterrupted and safe learning environment by building a culture of peace and harmony, promoting community engagements and strengthening child protection mechanisms.

Kamal Goer said that it targets to strengthen the peace building programme in the schools and establish child protection mechanism in schools. Education kits, sports kits suggestion boxes, white washing of targeted school buildings have been done under the initiative, he added.
