GDC Sogam organizes One-Day Inter-College Naat Competition

Kupwara : A one day inter-college Naat competition was held at Government Degree College (GDC) Sogam (Lolab), Kupwara on 13th October 2022. The event was (jointly) organized by the Departments of Islamic Studies and Kashmiri in collaboration with the College Cultural Committee (CCC) and Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC).

On the occasion, Dr Shamim Ahmad Dar Principal, GDC Sogam, the patron of the event, delivered welcome address. Dr Tauseef Ahmad (Assistant Professor, Islamic Studies; Convener, D&SC) and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad (Assistant Professor, Kashmiri; Convener, CCC) were the Conveners and Prof. Sajad Ahmad (HoD, English; Co-Convener, D&SC) and Prof. Ishfaq Hussain (Asst. Prof., English; Staff Secretary) were the Coordinators of the event. The event was moderated by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Sr. Asstt. Prof., Education; Coordinator, IQAC), while as Dr Mushtaq Ahmad (AP, Kashmiri) and Prof. Abdul Hamid Shah (AP, Arabic, GDC Kupwara) presented the “Introductory Remarks” and “Presidential Remarks”, respectively.

In the Competition, ten (10) students from six (6) degree colleges of north Kashmir—GDC (Boys) Kupwara, GDC Women Kupwara, GDC Langate, GDC Kralpora, GDC Sogam (host college) from Kupwara district, and GDC (B) Sopore of Baramula district —recited their Naat who were judged by a four-member jury.

In this competition, Ms Nusrat Bano of GDC (B) Kupwara, Mr Davood Ahmad Mir and Ms Sabreena Hasan of GDC Sogam bagged the first three positions, respectively. The certificates of participation and medals among all participants, besides cash prizes worth Rs 1000/, 700/and 500/ among the three position holders wer distributed.  Besides the participants, the event was attended by around two hundred (200) students and dozens of faculty members from the host college and the participating colleges.
