Srinagar : Reiterating that voting rights to ordinary residents of Jammu and Kashmir was bound to change peculiar demography and special identity of the local people, Chairman J&K People’s Democratic Front ( JKPDF) has said that the move was against cherished dream of Maharaja Hari Singh about Dogra pride .
In a statement issued on Wednesday Hakeem said that the decision of the government to give voting rights to ordinary residents would undoubtedly change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir . He said it was most ridiculous that on one hand government was boosting celeberation of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Harisingh while on the other hand , his cherished dream about Dogra pride was bieng mercilessly trampled in broad day light. He said the decision enabling non residents ,having just one year’s stay in Jammu , to register in the voter lists has emotionally and mentally disturbed the politically conscious people of Jammu and Kashmir adding that the government should revoke the decision at the earliest . He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir would never tolerate any sort of tinkering with their special identity and demography .
