Srinagar : Sept, 26: Police on Monday said that it has arrested 6 accused in connection with illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Awantipora and also seized six vehicles involved in the commission of crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, police said that PS Awantipora received inputs about illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from river Jehlum at Padgampora Awantipora following which a police party raided the specific spot and seized six vehicles (Dumpers) and also arrested six accused drivers with illegally extracted sand.
Stating that six drivers arrested in the connection with their involvement in extractions and transportation of mineral have been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar R/O Lathpora, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat R/O Patalbagh Pampore, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat R/O Patalbagh Pampore, Sajjad Ahmad Bhat R/O Wouan Khrew, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat R/O Nilnag Chadoora and Bilal Ahmad Ganie R/O Patalbagh Pampore, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the above named accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody and a case under FIR No. 209/2022 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Awantipora too has been registered and investigation has been set into motion to ascertain the facts.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police said that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt strictly as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
