G’bal: School of Education (SoE), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated Teachers’ Day, with ‘Best Practices & Innovations Awards’ as its central theme, at the Green Campus here on Monday. Around 110 persons including senior faculty members, students, and alumini of SoE participated in the programme.
According to a statement issued from the Public Relations Office of the University the Dean, School of Management Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, said, “Teachers’ Day needs to be celebrated more by the students—in honour of their teachers—and, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan”. He remarked that, “it is difficult to be a teacher especially within the context of the high quality of character expected from her/him by the society at large”. He emphasized that, “an average teacher tells, a good teacher explains, a great teacher demonstrates and an excellent teacher inspires. “The job of a teacher is to chisel the human soul and to humanize humanity.”
In his remarks, Dean, School of Media Studies, Prof. Shahid Rasool, emphasized that, “we must thank God for choosing us for this noble profession as we are primarily instrumental in producing human resource for the rest of the world”. He remarked that, “in the age of Google and other online services, the teacher must do his/her SWOT analysis and continue to stay relevant in the light of the needs of the 21st Century students and society”.
Earlier, Dean SoE, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, said, “technology cannot possibly replace the teachers’ role, at the same time the teacher stays irrelevant if it fails to update with special reference to advancements in ICT. He emphasized that, “teaching/learning of life skills is gaining importance and relevance in the current times and one such skill is the art of speaking in public gatherings. “One of the objectives of today’s event, in fact, is to create the platform for students to express and articulate themselves”.
In her remarks, Sr. Prof. Deptt of Education, Prof. Nighat Basu, explained the eight attributes of a good teacher in the light of 8Cs like competence, compassion, commonness, communicative, committed, creative, cultured and collaborative.
Consultant Academics, Prof. Parveen Pandit, said, “teacher is the most important pillar of any society. The first ‘T’ of the word ‘Teacher should stand for truthfulness towards the self, students and society at large. Teachers need to really connect with the lives of their students and inculcate values in their character”.
Many presentations were made by the alumni of SoE, in which they expressed their individual contributions towards the field of education. These presentations were assessed by jury members including Prof Shahid Rasool, Prof Nighat Basu, and Prof Parveen Pandit. The best four presenters were honoured with the Momentos while others received participation certificates. Moreover, seven students from IBM 5th Sem and seven students from M.Ed. 4th Sem expressed themselves in terms of their experiences associated with School Internship and Classroom teaching/learning respectively. The programme was convened and co-convened by Asst Profs Saima Bashir and S. Arokia Mary respectively while Asst Prof. Mr. Reyaz Ahmad Wani was its Rapporteur. Mr. Showkat Ahmad Dar and Ms. Anjum Shafi conducted the programme proceedings while as Ms. Falak Farooq proposed the vote of thanks.
Deptt Of Mathematics Celebrates Day: Department of Mathematics celebrated the Teachers Day by inviting well-known academician, Prof. A.P. Singh, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. Singh teaches Mathematics as a guest faculty in the Department from the last two years. Welcoming the guest, Prof W.M. Shah praised the students for arranging the celebration party for the teacher on this auspicious day. Prof A.P. Singh will be guiding the scholars and teachers to cutting edge research in Nevalina Theory. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Singh thanked the students and appreciated their efforts for arranging the party.
