New Delhi/Aug,19: Reacting sharply to the statement of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in which he had said that “repression won’t kill militancy in Kashmir”, Congress party on Saturday said that people like the Mirwaiz were “worsening the situation” in the valley.

“We have to see from where the provocation is coming? Mirwaiz should answer that also. People like Mirwaiz provoke people to attack the armed forces or take an anti-India position. These people are worsening the situation,” said Congress leader P.C. Chacko.

Another Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said that anyone who challenges the law or the Indian constitution will face equivalent consequences.

“Whenever a militant will stand up against the nation we will crush him. It is obvious that if a person challenges law and the Constitution of India then action needs to be taken against them. It is obvious if anybody will stand against the nation our security forces will combat and curb that force,” said Dikshit, as reported by Indian Express.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reacted harshly to the statement of Mirwaiz.

BJP MP and former Union home secretary RK Singh said that the Mirwaiz’s comment was a sign of his “nervousness due to the crackdown by National Investigation Agency (NIA) against separatist leaders” in the Valley.

“These people are feeling the pain because there has been a crackdown (by the NIA) on the flow of funds, which they used to receive from Pakistan. He (the Mirwaiz) is worried because he knows that he is one of the suspects,” Singh said.

Mirwaiz had yesterday said that young and educated boys are being killed every day as “some people sitting in New Delhi think that this will end the Kashmir problem”.

“Each day, young educated boys are being killed and there is a belief in some that once all of them are killed, the problem will be over. But those who think so forget that these boys took to arms as a reaction to repression and for the resolution of the dispute, and as long as there is repression and force as a State response, while you may kill one, ten more will stand up,” said Mirwaiz while addressing Muslims at Jamia Masjid after his release from 57-day house detention yesterday.
