Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters here, a police party of Police Station Khansahib at a checkpoint established at Yarikha intercepted a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration No JK03-8539 driven by one person identified as Manzoor Ahmed Ganie S/o Abdul Gani Ganie R/o Dabipora Yarikha and upon checking, officers recovered 140grams Charas like substance & cash amount of Rs 11,845/= believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime from his possession.
Stating that the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.
“After taking the accused into custody, Police registered as case vide FIR No. 147/2021 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Khansahib and investigation was initiated to ascertain the facts”, reads the above referred police statement.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement, police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police in the above quoted statement furthermore said that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to show that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
