Anantnag : A mega placement drive was held at Govt Polytechnic College Larkipora, Anantnag here on Tuesday.

Principal Secretary, Department of Skill Development, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon presided over the ceremony in virtual mode while Dr Basharat Qayoom, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Director SDD Sudershan Kumar were present on the occasion.

More than 1500 students from four districts of South Kashmir had registered for the placement drive and more than 20 companies also participated in the said drive to recruit the manpower.

The Principal Secretary in his inaugural speech emphasised on nurturing entrepreneurial skills in the students and impressed upon representatives of various organizations to instill confidence in the freshers by giving them a chance to prove their talents by working in their organizations.

Dr Basharat, while addressing the gathering, said that this is a good beginning. He said that talented students brimming with enthusiasm will have ample opportunities to demonstrate their skills in the field in various companies.

He said District Administration will provide complete support in all endeavours to engage youth in productive activities. He said that beyond jobs, he is confident that with the skills that have been imparted to the students in ITIs and Polytechnics, they will create self employment opportunities and provide employment to other job seekers.

The DC encouraged the students to believe in their skills and assured them that the District Administration will facilitate them in every possible way in fulfilling their dreams and being active contributors to the society.

Director Skill Development said that such placement drives will be organized in various other districts so that maximum students can be placed. He said that he is sure that the students being placed in these drives will be positive contributors for local industrial development in the valley.

Later, DC Anantnag and Director Skill Development interacted with all the representative of companies who were present in the event. Twenty Three companies conducted interaction with pass out students.

Dr Basharat also interacted with the students who put forth several ideas which were well received and the DC assured them that all necessary support will be extended for empowerment of youth.

The placement drive was attended by SDM Dooru, Principal ITI Anantnag and Principal GPC Larkipora besides others.
