Awantipora :Khurshid Ganie (Former Advisor to Governor, J&K), who is a distinguished fellow at the IUST on Tuesday delivered a talk titled “Finding your feet in the Changing World”. The focus of his talk was on the changing World scenario in the light of the fourth Industrial Revolution and how universities can contribute to it. The session was presided over by Prof.Shakil A Romshoo (Vice-Chancellor, IUST).
Referring to the impact of digitalization on global job market, Ganie said, “The world is changing and the nature of jobs is changing too. A virtual work environment is emerging wherein people are getting replaced with robots. About 85 million jobs will get reduced by the year 2025 and 97 million new roles will emerge. Now the universities have a huge challenge to re-fashion their curriculum and train the youth to get future-ready”.
Stressing the role of educational institutions to develop future entrepreneurs and employable youth, he said “India is going ahead in digitalization as world’s 40% digital transactions take place in India only. Also, the Indian tech industry employee base has grown to 5.1 million in 2022. The education institutions need to reskill core talent to digital talent roles to build a resilient workforce for the future. Increased corporate – University collaborations need to be encouraged to provide relevant tech skills”.
Supplementing the thoughts of the guest speaker, Prof.Shakil A Romshoo said “NEP lays special emphasis on the skill-based education and SDGs need to be targeted for a better tomorrow. The challenge with the institutions is to identify and develop links between NEP and SDGs”. Talking about the preparations of IUST in this direction, he further said that “60% of the university energy requirement at IUST is met from the in-house renewable resources and IUST also plans to set up the first skilling college with the existing infrastructure of the varsity”.
“The technologies are changing the world and institutions too need to focus on skill-based education so that our graduates possess requisite skills and are ready for the future”, said Dr. Asif Fazili (Head, Department of Management Studies) and convenor of the event.
