Shopian : Police on Sunday said that it has arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered approximately 280 grams of a charas-like substance during a naka-checking operation at Mastpora crossing.
According to police, a team from Police Station Keller noticed a person moving suspiciously during routine naka checking and apprehended him.
During his personal search, approximately 280 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said. The accused was identified as Junaid Ahmad Khanday, son of Gh Ahmad Khanday, a resident of Keller.
Police have registered FIR No. 87/2026 under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Keller and initiated an investigation.
The investigation will focus on establishing the alleged forward and backward linkages and identifying the wider network involved in drug trafficking, police said.
Police in its statement also reiterated its commitment to combating drug abuse and appealed to the public to share information regarding drug peddling and substance abuse in their localities. It said the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
