DHSK observes World Elder Abuse Awareness day

Srinagar: On the directions of Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir on Wednesday observed the World Elder Abuse Awareness day.
The major function was held at JLNM Hospital Srinagar. In his speech Dr SM Qadri, Deputy Director, DHSK, emphasized on the importance of elders at home and in society.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Jahanzaib, Deputy Director, DHSK talked about the ways of combating Elder Abuse.
In his speech, Dr Jameel Ahmed Mir CMO Srinagar spoke about the contribution of senior citizens in nation-building and how to take care of frail parents at home.
In her welcome address, Dr Bilquees Shah, NBEMS Coordinator, JLNM Hospital spoke in length about the ways to engage elderly people at home and make them feel important.
In his keynote address, Dr Zubair Saleem, Geriatrician and Gerontologist, incharge of Geriatric Department JLNM Hospital spoke about the types of elder abuse and referring to his study, he talked about scenario of elder abuse in Kashmir.
Others who were present on the occasion were Dr Afshan Anjum, DHO Srinagar, Dr Hashmat, Dr Asifa Jan, Medical Officer Headquarters Srinagar. Dr Tariq and Medical Superintendent Govt. Gousia Hospital Khanyar were also present on the occasion.
The participants included medical officers, physiotherapists and paramedics from district Srinagar.
As part of the World Elder Abuse Awareness day, geriatric specialists of DHSK Dr Murasa Shamshad and Dr Saqiba Afzal visited District Hospital Pulwama and Budgam respectively and conducted awareness programs there in presence of hospital authorities.
