Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to engage senior advocate Fali S Nariman to represent the state in the Supreme Court to defend the Article 35-A of the constitution.
This information was given by Minister for Rural Dev & Panchayati Raj & Law Justice Abdul Haq Khan said adding advocate general will also assist advocate Nariman.
Mr Khan said he himself is visiting Delhi from time to time to get details about different cases in the Supreme Court.
We will leave no stone unturned to defend the Article 35-A of the constitution, he declared.
Meanwhile, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Sartaj Madani said the party will go to any extend to defend the special status of the state.
Our president and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has time and again said that there will no compromise on the issue of Article 370 which guarantees special status to Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
Refusing to comment on coalition partner BJP’s stand on the issue, Mr Madani said late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at the time of alliance with BJP has said it was an alliance of north and south pole. However, in the interest of the people of the state, coalition was formed with the BJP, Mr Sayeed had said.
Mr Madani said the first thing in the “ Agenda of Alliance” document between PDP and BJP was that there will be no change in the Article 370.
Chief Minister during a public meeting recently has made an appeal to all political parties of the state to raise party lines to defend the special status of the state, Mr Madani said.
He said Ms Mehbooba met former chief minister and president of main opposition National Conference (NC) Dr Farooq Abdullah yesterday. She must have met leaders of other political parties in this connection.
When asked if the PDP would snap ties with BJP and go with opposition, Mr Madani said thse matters at to be decided by the party high command.
However,he said, government was never a priority for the party. Government was and will never be a priority for the PDP which will take any decision in the interest of the state and its people, he said.
