New Delhi, Srinagar: Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal and Gamini Singla have secured the first, second and third rank respectively in the civil services examination 2021, results of which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday.
As many as 685 candidates have qualified for the prestigious test, it said, without sharing further details of the candidates selected in the examination. Out of the 685, 244 are in a general category, 73 from the Economically Weaker Sections, 203 from Economically Weaker Sections, 105 from the Scheduled Castes, and 60 from the Scheduled Tribes.
Among those from J&K who cracked this year’s civil services Examination, Eight are from Jammu division while two are from Ladakh– Tenzin Chonzom and Anwar Hussain. However as per preliminary reports, none from Kashmir Valley has made it to the examination. Those selected from Jammu include Partha Gupta, Pankaj Yadav, Asrar Ahmad Kichloo (Kishtwar), Namneet Singh, Shivani Jerengal, Mohd Shabir (Poonch) and Anjeet Singh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated those who have qualified and reached out with empathy to those who could not make it to the elite civil services list. “Congratulations to all those who have cleared the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2021. My best wishes to these youngsters who are embarking on their administrative careers at an important time of India’s development journey, when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, said the Prime Minister on microblogging site twitter.
In another tweet, the Prime Minister said, “I fully understand the disappointment of those who could not clear Civil Sercices Exam but I also know these outstanding youngsters who will make a mark in any feild they pursue and make India proud. My best wishes to them”.
The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages preliminary, main and interview to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
The written or main part of the examination was conducted in January, 2022, and the interviews were held in April and May this year, it said.
The candidature of 80 candidates is provisional while the result of one candidate has been kept withheld.
Besides the top three rank holders, Aishwarya Verma secured the fourth position and Utkarsh Dwivedi achieved the fifth rank, it said.
