2 drug peddlers held in Budgam, Contraband substance, cash recovered: Police

‘Poppy cultivation destroyed in Pulwama’

Budgam|April, 26: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Chadoora area of Budgam district besides recovering contraband substances and cash of Rs 55000 from their possession, stating therein further that poppy cultivation was also destroyed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
In a statement issued on Tuesday police said that a police party of Police Station Chadoora during patrolling at Nagam-Hayatpora road intercepted a vehicle (Alto-800) bearing registration number JKO4E-9628 with two persons on board identified as Mohammad AyoubBeigh son of Mohammad Jamal Beigh resident of Nowhar Chadoora & Nazir Ahmed Sheikh son of Mohammad Shafi Shiekh resident of Tangnar Chadoora and upon checking 69 Kgs of Poppy Straw and cash amount of ₹55000/-, believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime were recovered from their possession, stating therein further that the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody .
Stating that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized,
Police in its statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 69/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation has been set into motion.
Police further said that in Pulwama, a special team of Police comprising of DySPHqrs Pulwama along with SHO PS Pulwama and revenue department launched a special drive against the poppy cultivation and destroyed poppy approximately in 07 Kanals of land in Pinglena and Gundipora areas of Pulwama and also recovered 21 Kgs of green poppy from the spot.
Police said that in this regard a case vide FIR No. 107/22 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Pulwama against two accused persons namely Gh Rasool Bhat son of GhQadir resident of Pinglena & Nazir Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Subhan resident of Gundipora Pulwama.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
