3 drug peddlers arrested in Budgam, Contraband substance recovered in Pulwama : Police

Budgam, Pulwama : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and also recovered contraband substance from their possession & seized a vehicle. It also said that huge quantity of contraband substances and a vehicle involved in the transportation of drugs has also been seized in Pulwama.
In a statement issued on Friday police said that a police party from Police Post Humhama at a checkpoint established at Humhama Budgam intercepted an Auto Rickshaw bearing registration number JK01AD-5441 with two persons on board and upon checking recovered 90 bottles of codeine phosphate and cash amount of ₹12,000/- believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime from the possession of the accused identified as Rayees Ahmad Sheikh son of Mehraj Din Sheikh resident of Kanihama Nowgam and Ishfaq Ahmed Sofi son of Fayaz Ahmed Sofi resident of Humhama Budgam. Police in it’s statement also said that the above named accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating further that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, Police in its statement further said that at another instance, a suspicious person tried to flee at a checkpoint established by Police Station Budgam at Dafpora Nasrullahpora but was overpowered professionally by the alert police party following which he was identified as Firdous Ahmad Dar son of Ali Mohammad Dar resident of Dafpora Nasrullahpora , police in it’s above referred statement further said that upon checking, 90 grams of charas like substance covered in maize cob leaves & 180 tablets of Alprazolam were recovered from the possession of the accused who has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
“In another similar incident in Pulwama, police received inputs from the reliable sources that one person namely Mohd Yousuf son of Ab Rehman Bhat resident of Gosoo Pulwama is indulging in drug peddling and has hoarded large quantity of contraband substances in his house”, adding that “ a police party from Police Station Pulwama along with Executive Magistrate Rajpora raided the said house and recovered 20 Kgs of poppy straw, weighing machine, generator and a grinder from the spot”. Police in it’s statement also said that a vehicle (swift car) which was used for transportation of contraband substances, stating therein further that efforts are on to nab the culprit involved in the commission of crime.
“Cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been set into motion”, reads further the above quoted police statement.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
