Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has expressed anguish over the news reports about the alleged trade of orphans by some vested interests who sell human flesh for their petty gains in the markets across the country by a local NGO.
In a statement issued here on Friday the Chairman JKCSF Abdul Qayoom Wani termed the alleged act an extremely heinous crime and the social shame for Kashmir Society.
Wani said as per news reports, many children who became orphans during Covid-19 pandemic were being sold outside Kashmir at 75,000 to 100,000 rupees .
“We are shocked and greatly saddened that our ” pir-e vaur” Kashmir valley (the land of saints and sages) where love, affection, rehabilitation and peace flourished till yesteryears has now become a safe heaven heaven such types of social evils and crimes against humanity are taking place here”, said Wani, adding that “It is the moment of introspection for the entire people of Kashmir in general and for the leaders, teachers, scholars, journalists, imams and conscious citizens of the civil society in particular.”
Wani said that JKCSF headed by him strongly condemns such antihuman act and demands strict action against the individuals and institutions involved in the scam.
“This is the high time to ponder upon the issue, the need of the hour is to launch a full fledged and organised campaign at all levels to generate a mega reform and create awareness in the society in accordance with the teachings and guidance of religious commandments”.
He also said that JKCSF vehemently appeals the law enforcing institutions to probe into the matter so that no orphan is sold against petty gains by human flesh traders. He also appealed the Imams and Khateebs, heads of the schools, Welfare Organisations and govt stakeholders to undertake the rehabilitation of the orphans and poor children in their hands on priority so that they don’t become vulnerable to exploitation
