Srinagar: As the curbs were lifted by the authorities, life limped back to normalcy on Monday after business establishments reopened in Srinagar parts and elsewhere in the Valley. The authorities also restored mobile internet services in Kashmir districts barring Srinagar and Budgam in the evening.
Witnesses said that the public transport plied in Srinagar areas and elsewhere in the Valley.
They said that the concertina wires erected on the roads by the security forces were removed Monday. However, the witnesses said that the restrictions remained in place in Eidgah area Monday.
Witnesses said that the business establishments including shops and other establishments reopened after four days in Kashmir, adding that the street vendors had also erected their carts in the commercial hub Lal Chowk and elsewhere in the Valley.
They also informed that the business establishments reopened partially in downtown areas.
Moreover, the mobile internet services that remained suspended since Wednesday night were restored Monday evening, while the services continue to remain suspended in twin districts of central Kashmir’s Srinagar and Budgam districts.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that the mobile internet will be restored at 7pm in all districts except twin districts of Srinagar and Budgam.
He said that they will take a review about the restoration of mobile internet services in Srinagar and Budgam districts tomorrow afternoon.
Pertinently, the restrictions remained in place after the demise of 92-year-old Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who passed away at his Hyderpora residence on Wednesday evening after prolonged illness.
His family members had alleged that police snatched Geelani’s body and buried him silently in darkness, an allegation out rightly rejected by the police that stated “the fact was police facilitated the burial of Geelani.”
