11 drug peddlers arrested in Ang & Kulgam, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested eleven drug peddlers in Anantnag & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Saturday police said “In Anantnag, officers from Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Larkipora intercepted two persons identified as Bashir Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Khaliq Mir resident of Sadoora and Zahoor Ahmed Shah son of Abdul Majeed Shah resident of Keeri Dooru”, adding that “during checking officers recovered 400 grams of Charas and 5 grams of Heroin from their possession following which the accused named above were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in another similar action at Sakras crossing Anantnag, officers from Police Station Srigufwara arrested two drug peddlers identified as Mohd Ashraf Sofi son of Mohd Ismail Sofi and Javid Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Gaffar Sofi both residents of Guree Bijbehara, police in the above referred statement said that during search officers recover 900 grams of Charas from the possession of the above named accused after which they were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said that in Kulgam, Police party from Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established near Petrol pump Qaimoh intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration number JK05-9454 with five persons on board identified as Nafees Hussain son of Barkat Hussain resident of Gingle Uri, Mohammad Yawar son of Abdul Rashid resident of Firdous colony Batamaloo, Zahid Rafeeq son of Mohammad Rafeeq Sheikh resident of Nundreshi colony Bemina and Imtiyaz Ahmad Machlo son of Ali Mohammad Machlo and Sayeed Kifayat Hussain son of Sayeed Manzoor Ahmad both residents of Hamdania Colony Bemina.
Stating that during checking officers recovered 10kgs of Poppy Straw and 05 grams of Heroin from the possession of above named five accused , police in the above quoted statement said that the above named accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that in another action at Shamsipora crossing, officers from Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Shamsipora crossing intercepted a vehicle (santro) bearing registration number JK03B-6966 driven by one person identified as Mohd Abass Bhat son of Jalal-u-din Bhat resident of Parigam. Stating that during checking, officers recovered 340 gram of Charas from the possession of the above named accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police in it’s statement further said that vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that meanwhile in another action, officers from Police Post Navyog tunnel at a checkpoint established at North portal of Navyog Tunnel intercepted a vehicle (Taveera) bearing registration No. JK03C-8182, police in the above referred statement also said “during checking of the said vehicle, officers recovered 10kgs of Poppy straw from the possession of one person boarding in the vehicle identified as Sukhvinder Singh son of Veer Singh resident of Jalander Punjab who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized”.
In the concluded para of its above referred statement police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated.
