Rajouri: Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri, launched plantation drive at University campus Rajouri. On the occasion, Prof. Akbar planted a sapling and highlighted the significance of afforestation for the conservation of biodiversity and bio resources.Vice-Chancellor laid emphasis on planting more and more trees to mitigate the climate change along with protection of environment. Prof. Akbar said that under the persisting alarming condition of the environmental degradation such plantation drives are the need of the hour. Prof. Akbar said , ‘ Green and clean campus is our priority and this plantation drive is an other step forward forward towards achieving our aim of Grean and Clean campus of BGSBU”. Prof.Akbar mentioned that this Plantation drive is to inspire everyone to work towards ecological restoration. He shared that different varieties of saplings would be planted in this drive based on their ecological and medicinal significance. Those who were present on the occasion included Prof . Aif Hussain, Dean School of Engineering and Technology , Suneet Gupta, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor and other officials of the University.
3 drug peddlers arrested in G’bal & Kulgam: Police
Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Ganderbal & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Friday police said that in Ganderbal, acting on specific information, officers at a checkpoint established in Lar area intercepted a vehicle (Skoda) bearing registration number DL4CNA-3705 with two persons on board identified as Muneer Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Nabi Khan resident of Peth Serch Ganderbal and Farhad Ahmad Khan son of Ameer Ahmad Khan resident of Gutlibagh, Ganderbal.
Stating that during checking of the vehicle in presence of Executive Magistrate, 76gms of Heroin were recovered from possession of the above named accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s above referred statement further said that vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement also said that in yet incident in Kulgam district officers from Police Station Qazigund under the supervision of SDPO Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam intercepted two persons identified as Balwan Singh son of Uttam Singh resident of Jonubata Dhar Udhampur and Reyaz Ahmad Dar son of Gull Mohd Dar resident of Churat.
Stating that during checking, officers recovered 700 grams of Charas and 32 Bottles of illicit Liquor from the above named accused, police in the above referred statement said that though both the accused persons tried to flee from the spot, but the accused Balwan Singh was apprehended tactfully & the accused Reyaz Ahmad Dar managed to escape from the spot.
Saying that efforts are on to effect the arrest of accused Rayaz Ahmad Dar evading arrest so , police in the concluding para of it’s statement said “while the accused Balwan Singh has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody”, adding that “ a case vide FIR No. 36/2021 and FIR Number 163/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Lar and Police Station Qazigund respectively”
