Srinagar/ July,5: Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in parts of downtown Srinagar – summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir – on Wednesday to prevent protests against the proposed implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state.
Reports said that police vans announced curfew in Nowhatta and other areas.
They said that a tight curfew is in place in these areas with police and paramilitary forces patrolling the streets to foil any protests.
An official said that restrictions under Section 144 CrPc are in place in areas falling under five police stations in the Old city “as a precautionary measure”.
