Srinagar: Ruling party and Opposition members Tuesday exchanged heated arguments and remarks in the Legislative Assembly during the discussion on resolution of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
NC legislator Davender Rana and PDP Minister for Youth Services and Sports Imran Ansari charged allegations against each other.
Rana was speaking on the resolution and said that the GST extension to the state without safeguards is an attack on “idea of Jammu and Kashmir and idea of the country”.
“Your intent is clear by the resolution that it should be passed in the House,” Rana said while making his speech on the GST and its implications on the state’s financial autonomy of the state.
While Rana was speaking, Imran Ansari interrupted him and asked him not to deceive public on GST by opposing its extension to the state.
Ansari read from piece of paper and pointed to Rana that your company and Abdul Rahim Rather’s company have applied for GST PIN and migrated to the GST tax regime.
“You and Rather Sahab (Abdul Rahim Rather) have migrated your companies to GST and got GST PIN. But your opposition to GST extension does not hold water as you are deceiving traders and public,” he said towards Rana.
While Ansari was asking Rana what moral justification he had by opposing GST, Rana said that he did not know his company has applied for GST.
“May be some official in my company may have applied, but I have not personally applied for GST PIN, he said, adding, “If his company has got GST PIN, he is not like those companies which evaded tax and did tax choori.”
This angered Ansari, who pointed to Rana and said: I can lynch you here. I know all your shady business. You are a fuel thief.”
This remark created uproar in the house as opposition members objected to Ansari’s lynching remark.
Later, Ansari told reporters that he did not mean physical lynching but political lynching which meant that “he could speak volumes about Rana’s business and his shoddy deals”.
