Srinagar: National Conference Senior Leader and Former Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul on Thursday stated as Jammu and Kashmir suffers from crumbling infrastructure, faltering utility supplies and deteriorating basic human development indicators, the governance and development has taken a back seat.
Gul said this while touring Eidgah constituency in Srinagar District. He said the widespread development deficit and administrative inertia that has beset J&K. He said the prevailing conditions have created an environment of negative growth rates, scathing unemployment and unaccountability.
During his extensive day-long tour of the constituency, he made brief stopovers at Safakadal,Sangam, Goripura,Palpura, Dana Mazar, Badiwudar and other adjoining areas. While traversing the constituency he interacted with the local populace, who apprised him about the plethora of predicaments they are facing in the form of crumbling road infrastructure, paucity of electricity, proper sanitation and drainage facilities.
“The projects of public importance which were initiated by me have been left midway by the incumbent administration. Roads at Palpura, Noorbagh, Safakadal, Nawabazar and Sagam in particular narrate a grim tale of official neglect. What is aggravating the local populace more is the ruined condition of roads at Rathpura, Nawabazar, Nawakadal, Safakadal, and Noorbagh. The unfinished drainage project at Palpura has in particular jeopardized the lives of locals. The unfinished drainage project often creates cesspools of slush minutes after it rains a little,” he said.
Referring to the ravaging impact of the Covid-19 induced crises, Gul said the people associated with handicraft sector constitute a greater chunk of the population in Eidgah, saying that the ravaging impact of the ongoing crises and its predatory effect on the trade; commerce and tourism have hard pushed them to poverty and destitution.
Gul also visited a local Public health center at Sangam and enquired about the pace of Covid Vaccination being at the facility and availability of other various critical Covid care drugs.
While expressing concern over the plight of youth suffering on account of joblessness and closure spaces for pursuance of vocations, Gul said the government has turned a volte face towards the issues concerning the youth of J&K.
