Srinagar: All the major shrines and Masjids falling under the control of Wakf board and the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar here continued to remain closed for the mandatory Friday prayers across Jammu and Kashmir as the Corona curfew imposed by the government completed one month period.
Notably, the government imposed Corona curfew in J&K on April 29, 2021 evening in order to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. However, the lockdown period was extended five times since last month. Recently, the government announced that the curfew would continue to remain in place across J&K till May 31, 2021.
Moreover, all the major shrines and Masjids including Hazratbal shrine, Khankah Maula, and others remained closed for the mandatory Friday prayers Friday.
Witnesses said no Friday prayers were held at the shrines and Masjids falling under the jurisdiction of Wakf board were held Friday.
Besides, the historic Jamia Masjid also remained closed for the mandatory prayers Friday.
Moreover, eye-witnesses informed that police and paramilitary troops were deployed although in large numbers to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places and bridges to thwart the public movement, they said.
Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Nonetheless, vehicular movement was witnessed on the roads in almost every area Friday.
