Srinagar : Chairman People’s Democratic Front (JK PDF) Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen on Saturday hailed the Supreme Court judgment on release of prisoners on parole or bail to decongest jails in view of the continuing second wave of covid-19 pandemic across the country. He has appealed both the central government and as well as the J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to release all political prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir before the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
In a statement issued on Saturday Hakeem said that the judgement of the Supreme Court on release of prisoners is laudable and appealed both Centeral government and as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to release all political prisoners of Jammu and kashmir languishing in different prisons of the country before the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, saying that “release of political prisoners before Eidul-Fire would be a noble humanitarian gesture on the part of Lt Governor” . He urged the Lieutenant Governor to set free prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir before ensuing Eid- ul-Fitr so that they can celebrate this religious festival with thier families. He said releasing prisoners on Eid festival would be a great humanitarian initiative and also a conference building measure (CBM) . He said the prevailing spike in covid pandemic has made it imperative for the government to decongest all jails by releasing of prisoners on bail or parole.
As already reported by media the Supreme Court has displayed the order on it’s official website. The judgment reads “Further we direct that, those inmates who were granted parole, pursuant to our earlier orders, should be again granted parole for a period of 90 days in order to tide over the pandemic.” It also directed the high-powered committees to consider release of fresh prisoners by adopting the guidelines of the National Legal Services Authority on the issue.
