7 persons arrested for illegal mining , transportation in Budgam, Handwara: Police

Srinagar: Police in a series of action against illegal mining activities have arrested 7 persons involved in illegal excavation and transportation of clay/sand and also seized 8 vehicles in Budgam and Handwara.
A police statement issued on Thursday said “ In Budgam, police party from Police Station Khansahab intercepted 1 JCB and three loaded tractors with illegally extracted sand/bajri and the drivers identified as Showkat Ahmed Sofi, Jasarat Hameed Baba and Showkat Ahmed Ganie all residents of Dreygam Kasipora Khansahab were arrested and shifted to Police Station Khansahab where they remain in custody”, adding that “all vehicles used in the commission of the crime have also been seized”. Police in it’s statement also said that that a case FIR No. 41/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Khansahab and investigation has been initiated.
Police in it’s above referred statement further said that in yet another similar incident in Handwara, police party from Police Post Langate raided different locations of Nalla Mawar and intercepted four Vehicles loaded with illegally extracted clay/sand. Stating that the drivers were identified as Mohd Abdulla Mir and Ab Rasheed Bhat both residents of Lolab Gundmacher, Zahoor Ahmad resident of Prangroo and Waris Ahmad Mir resident of Langate, police in the above referred statement said “ the accused were formally arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. The vehicles used in the commission of the crime were also seized”.
Stating that a case FIR No. 67/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated, police in the concluding para of the above referred statement warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law but appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
