14 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir areas, Huge quantity of contraband substances recovered : Police

Srinagar: Police in a series of actions across Kashmir valley have arrested 14 drug peddlers and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
A police statement issued on Tuesday said that in Baramulla officers at a checkpoint established at Kunzar Market intercepted a person identified as Reyaz Ah Mir resident of Beewa Kunzar from whom 700 grams of Charas were recovered , stating therein that he was arrested and shifted to Police Station Kunzer where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said case vide FIR numbers 11/2021 under relevant section of law has been registered at PS Kunzer and further investigation has been taken up.
Police in the above referred statement also said that in yet another similar incident officers at a checkpoint established at Nipora crossing in Kulgam district intercepted a vehicle (Chevrolet Aveo LS Car) bearing registration number JK01K-8909 with two persons on board identified as Aarif Ahmad Ganie & Muzaffar Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Hassanpora Bagh Bijebhara. Stating that during checking officers recovered 550 grams of Charas from their possession and after arresting them shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. “Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized and a case vide FIR no. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in this regard”, reads the police statement.
Police in it’s statement also said that in another similar action, officers from Police Station DH Pora while patrolling, intercepted three persons identified as Abdul Majeed Malik resident of Nagam DH Pora, Zeeshan Ahmad Malik resident of Khull and Tawseef Ahmad Naik resident of Chimmer and recovered from them 90 grams of Charas after which they were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. “A case vide FIR no. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS DH Pora and investigation has been initiated”, the police statement reads further.
Revealing that in Sopore alsi, eight notorious drug peddlers involved in smuggling/supplying drugs to the local youth were arrested and huge quantity of psychotropic substances was recovered from their possession, the police in it’s statement identified these drug peddlers as Umar Farooq Sheikh resident of Seloo, Muhammad Rafeeq Ganie resident of Ganie Mohalla Dangerpora, Sheikh Muzaffar Qadir, Ab Rashid Sheikh, Muhammad Asif Naikoo and Ishfaq Ahmad Khaja, all residents of Seloo, Rameez Ahmad Mir resident of Aadipora and Basit Hassan Mir resident of Changa Mohalla Arampora. They have been shifted to Police Station Sopore where they remain in custody.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police said that cases vide FIR numbers 36/2021, 41/2021, 43/2021, 44/2021 & 45/2021 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Sopore and investigations have been initiated. Police in it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
