Drug peddler arrested in G’bal, cache of contraband recovered: Police

Srinagar:Acting tough against social crimes and drug dealing, Ganderbal Police in a series of actions have arrested a drug peddler and four gamblers. Huge quantity of contraband substances and stake money of ₹29,500/- also seized.
A police statement issued on Thursday said “based on specific information, a police party from PS Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri along with Tehsildar Kangan raided a residential house belonging to Shakeel Ahmad Raina resident of Kasana Pati, Hariganvan but during search, officers recovered 10kgs of Ganja, 210gms of charas powder and 58gms of charas sticks wrapped in corn husk from the said house”.
Stating that the accused has been arrested and shifted to PS Gund where he remains in custody, police in it’s statement further said “ a case vide FIR No. 05/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Gund and investigation has been initiated”, adding that “in yet another similar action, a police party from PP Nagbal under the supervision of Dysp Hqrs Ganderbal Dr Abdul Majid Magray-JKPS while acting upon inputs about gambling activities in the area raided a gambling site at Village Shuhama and apprehended four gamblers identified as Khazir Mohd Rather son of Wali Mohd Rather, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Salaam Sheikh, Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Habibullah Sheikh and Ghulam Mohd Wani son of Ghulam Ahmad Wani all residents of Shuhama, Ganderbal”.
Police in it’s statement also said “playing cards and stake money of ₹29,500/- have also been seized from possession of the accused who have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody”, adding that “ a case vide FIR No. 13/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Ganderbal and investigation has been initiated”.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling and other criminal activities shall be dealt as per law, stating therein that “actions against drug peddlers and anti-social elements are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace and social crimes as reiterated in community meetings”.
