Bandipora admin conducts medical evacuation of critically ill patient from snowbound Gurez Valley

Bandipora: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed a critically ill patient was airlifted from snowbound Gurez to Bandipora for immediate medical aid.

An official said that an elderly Gh Nabi Khan of Jurniyal Tulail was in critical condition and was advised for further treatment at Bandipora.

The district administration received an SOS call from the family for the evacuation of the patient and in response, Deputy Commissioner immediately directed to arrange a special chopper to airlift the patient.

The snow-clad Gurez Valley remains cut off from the rest of the world during winters owing to heavy snowfall in the valley. Several patients from across Gurez valley have been evacuated in past months, said an official.

He said Critically ill patients are being “evacuated” from Gurez to hospitals in Bandipora and Srinagar.

He said District Control Room is working 24*7 and the SOS for medical emergencies are prioritized.

The Control Room which was established in November 2018 under the supervision of the then DC Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has performed a range of activities while also helping the general public in times of distress.

The activities of control room according to the official range from receiving the complaints and while the earlier redressal remains our priority, the official said.

He said besides that control room performs duties as in times of manmade or natural disasters by acting as the disaster and management control room, district covid control room, district covid19 vaccination, etc.

Besides this, the Control room works in providing internet and telephone connectivity in times of shutdown in the district and also the manages helicopters services to Gurez and assistance to stranded passengers, it also election control room, the official said.
