Assembly Session: Speaker reviews security, other arrangements

Srinagar/June,14: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta chaired a high level meeting here Wednesday to review the security and other arrangements for the ensuing special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, commencing from Saturday, June 17, 2017.
Stressing on all departments to make concerted efforts to ensure hassle-free proceedings of the Special Session, Kavinder Gupta said that GST is a very important policy issue that should be discussed by the elected representatives.
“The people have a right to be educated about a decision that is going to impact their lives. We, as the members of the establishment, have to ensure that what reaches the public are facts rather than skewed renditions of the truth”, Kavinder Gupta added.
Director Information, Muneer-ul-Islam informed the Speaker that the department has made all necessary arrangements to ensure detailed coverage of the proceedings. Besides, other arrangements are also being finalized to assist and keep harmonious relation between the Press and the Legislature.
During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on different arrangements related to security, traffic, fire services, estates, water and power supply, sanitation, medicare among others during the session.
Director General of Police, Dr S P Vaid and Additional Director General of Police, Security, Dilbagh Singh briefed the meeting about the security arrangements within and around the Assembly premises besides MLA hostel, Airport and the routes frequented during the session by the legislators.
The Speaker directed Inspector General of Police (Traffic) to ensure proper regulation of traffic on roads in the city during the session, especially on roads leading to legislative complex and MLA’s Hostel. He also directed the Department of Fire Services to ensure the provision of adequate fire fighting tenders within the Assembly premises and MLA’s Hostel Srinagar to counter any eventuality.
The Speaker directed the concerned officers from PDD and PHE to ensure un-interrupted power and water supply during the session and to conduct detailed check of transmission lines before the ensuing session.
The Speaker also directed Estates Department to ensure necessary repairs and renovation work in the Assembly complex, particularly in the House and VIP Chambers.
The Speaker also directed for setting up JKTDC Cafeteria within the premises of the Assembly Secretariat as usual for the convenience of Members and Media on the already approved rates.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmed Lone also briefed the meeting about the arrangements put in place for the smooth conduct of Special Session.
Directions were also passed to the concerned authorities of Government Press, Floriculture, BSNL, Health and other related departments to ensure all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the session.
Among others, Secretary Legislative Assembly, M R Singh, IGP CID, AG Mir, IG Traffic Jagjit Kumar, DIG CKR Srinagar, G H Bhat, SSP Traffic City, Sargun Shukla, Director Estates, Tassaduq Jeelani, besides senior officers of concerned department were also present in the meeting.
