Srinagar: The family members of a police operator, who went missing in August this year, after the vehicle he was travelling in plunged into Chinab River near Ramban, staged a protest in Srinagar, demanding a rescue operation to trace him.
Reports reaching here said the family members of the missing police operator Altaf Ahmed Rather son of late Abdul Qadeer Rather a resident of Sheerpora Pattan, who had gone missing after the vehicle, he was travelling in had plunged into Chinab River, shot of 5 kilometers from main town Ramban, assembled in Press colony Srinagar and staged a protest, demanding him to be traced.
The vehicle, a Tempo Traveler had plunged into the river, while on its way from Jammu to Srinagar on August 31, 2019 and the said police operator, who was travelling in it, is missing since then, without a trace.
The niece of the missing police operator Gousia Sofi, while talking to reporters said that her uncle was on duty, when he went missing, but no effort was made by the authorities to trace him dead or alive.
She said, “We have met all the higher ups in the Police Department, but no one have shown any interest in helping us.”
We even went to Ramban to request police to launch a rescue operation to find my uncle, who said that they cannot do anything till the water flow in the river is not stopped,” she said.
“However when we requested the river authorities to stop the water, they refused to do so,” she added.
Appealing Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to help them, the protestors said that Altaf Ahmed went missing while performing his duty and it is obligatory on the part of the government to trace him.
“We are requesting Lt. Governor to help us and order a rescue operation to trace our kin,” They said.
