JK’s 16.2% unemployment rate distressing: NC’s Nasir

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday said the government has miserably failed to tackle rising unemployment saying the recent figures on the increasing unemployment rate in J&K is distressing.
In a statement, the party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani expressed concern over the alarming 16.2 percent of unemployment rate in J&K. “Much clamor was built around creating jobs but in reality, the people are yet to see anything substantial. A false impression was given that Article 370 was hampering the growth and employability in J&K. It has been more than a year since the constitutional status of the state was rescinded unconstitutionally. So what is it now which is impeding the government to fill the vacancies on a fast track basis? Where is the much touted investment which was supposed to reach J&K? Where are the Jobs? Instead we have such alarming figures at hand while the government continues to remain mute on such issues of concern,” he said.
Calling the bureaucratic government’s rhetoric on employment generation in J&K as farfetched, he said, “The new normal, post unilateral, unconstitutional and undemocratic rescinding of J&K’s special status destroyed all the viable economic activities in the region and cost people their employment. The youth bore much of the brunt of the imprudent and divisive policies of the center.”
“As if what was done on 5th of August last year was not enough, the recent amendments to J&K service rules have unnecessarily created more stress among the J&K employees. without any doubt, this is going to have a large scale impact on their psyche which will reflect in their overall deliverance. It seems the move is aimed to systematically dis-empower our working class as well,” he added.
Upping the anti againt forcible retirement decisions, rade Union leaders calls for protests on Oct 31
Srinagar: Senior Trade and Employee Union leaders have called for protest against the government’s recent decision on forcible retirement. The decision was taken at a meeting of senior trade union leaders called to discuss future course against the Government’s recent notification issued under SRO 324 to acquire powers to retire government employees at the age of 48 years or after completing 22 years of service. Among others Senior trade union leaders who attended the meeting include Mohammad Maqbool Ganaie, Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Khalid Mehmood Khan, Zulkarnain Bhat, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi, Ghulam Rasool Geelani, Javid Aakhoon, Sheikh Aijaz Makhdoomi, Abdul Majid Parray, Abdul Rashid Najar, Altaf Ahmad, Abdul Rouf and Abdul Quyoom Beigh.
Terming it as a draconian law which is against the interests of the lakhs of employees working in the region Aijaz Ahmad Khan and other Senior Trade Union Leaders said that the notification issued by Government are aimed at keeping the employees under pressure which is bound to cause insecurity among them. They said that It would serve as a tool to the government and bureaucrats to suppress their subordinates,adding that “a sword of uncertainty has been kept over the heads of employees which can also be exploited by their superiors.
The Chairman Employees Joint Consultative Committee ( EJCC) Aijaz Khan said there were already several laws to govern employees – “what was the need to issue such draconian laws? The objective of such laws is only aimed at preventing employee unions from raising their voice against the anti-employee policies of the government and the management.
He said different platforms of trade unions and employees federations in the country have decided to hold protests at the Divisional / Directorate level offices of all the Departments on 31st October and if the demands were not fulfulled by the Government, protests will be held at District/Sectoral level offices in all Districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
All the Trade Union and Employees Union leaders decided that Trade Union Movement of the country should enlist the demand for scraping of this draconian SRO in their charter of demands also.
