Shopian/June,8: A Police officer arrested the head of the family after his children protested against the callous attitude of the said officer alleging that he is not only intimidating the ‘rape victim’ but has also been shielding the culprits.
Muhammad Hussain Keela of Check Saidpora Shopian along with his son Reyaz Ahmed, wife and daughter (name withheld) had emerged here in Press Enclave Srinagar on Wednesday and had alleged that culprits responsible for the ‘abduction and rape’ of his 16 years old girl are roaming free while police have been shielding them.
Apparently, aghast over the protest staged by family in Srinagar city, Chowi Officer Hurpora Shopian according to family members called Muhammad Hussain Keela to police post on Thursday morning and locked him up there. ‘He abused him for registering a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar, the family said. “Police post head Sub-Inspector Muhammad Iqbal called us on phone asking us to report at police station. He asked my father to visit the station quickly as according to him he wanted to resolve the case and arrest the culprits,” said the family members adding that on reaching police post, the Chowi Officer locked up their family head.
“This is sheer injustice. Instead of taking action against the culprits, the police officer is support the influential and on their behest is harassing us. He is asking us to shut our mouth and don’t report the happenings to media,” said the family members.
“Over a month, more than 15 persons barged into our house at 9:30 pm and abducted my daughter who is only 16 years old. She was kept at an unknown place during that period three beasts raped her. My daughter recorded her statement before court and categorically identified the culprits. The doctors who conducted medical check-up confirmed rape but after few day’s police informed us that medical report is negative. We fail to understand why police changed its version and why it has failed to nab the molesters,” he said.
The victim girl said while identifying some of the culprits as Shabir Keela, Khurshid Sheikh, Showkat Sheikh, Altaf Keela, Latif Keela all hailing from the same village said that she can easily identified other culprits if they are paraded before her. “Three culprits repeatedly abused my in inebriated state. They kept me in a shed where from I was recovered by police. Police have so far arrested only three culprits while no action has been initiated against them,” she said and sought intervention of Director General and Inspector General Police.
Reyaz Ahmed, the brother of the victim girl said that her sister was abducted and abused because there is a dispute over a piece of land between them and their neighbours. “Police have arrested my father and now they are asking me to report at police post Hurpora. Our only fault is that we protested in Srinagar to attract the attention of Police Chief and Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone,” he said.
When contacted Incharge police post Sub Inspector Muhammad Iqbal and tried to ascertain the facts, he bluntly said that people should not keep any expectations from police. “I have arrested the family head and will arrest the rest of the members because they are wanted in an FIR registered in the police station,” Sub-Inspector said and put down the phone.
