Srinagar: Security forces detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) at Chatloora, Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said Thursday.
Defence sources said in the morning Joint Road opening Party (RoP) of 32 RR and BSF detected the IED that was wrapped in a bag near the passenger shed at Chatlora, Rafiabad highway.
They said it was confirmed through mine detectors and sniffer dogs that the bag contained the explosive, before the bomb disposal squad was called to destroy it. “Movement of all vehicles along the highway was stopped immediately,” the sources said.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said some suspicious material was noticed near passenger shed at Chatloora Rafiabad Baramula -Handwara highway by ROP party of Army. He said the suspicious material was successfully destroyed in morning.
“Relentless domination of the area and high alertness level of the security forces prevented and untoward incident along the National Highway,” he said.
It is pertinently, this is the third IED recovered and defused this year in the Baramulla district. The first IED was recovered on August 4 during Cordon and search operation in Panzilla Village on January 09. Second IED was recovered at Ladoora Rafiabad and third IED was recovered today by same unit of RR in Chatloora, Rafiabad
