New Delhi: Pranab Mukherjee, former president of India and Congress stalwart, passed away on Monday at army hospital in Delhi Cantonment area. He was admitted to the hospital on August 10 and was operated for removal of a clot in his brain. He later developed lung infection and was on ventilator support.
The flag at Parliament was lowered to half mast, a sign of national mourning. The former president’s funeral will be held tomorrow. “With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! (sic),” Mukherjee’s son tweeted.
