Srinagar: Former President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and civil society leader Ab Qayoom Wani on Thursday impressed upon the Jammu and Kashmir Government to name two hospitals in Srinagar as designated non -COVID-19 hospitals to address the concerns of general patient care and patient safety facilities in Kashmir valley.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Wani expressed serious concern over the pathetic condition of general patients for want of medical consultations and medications as all the hospitals in Kashmir more or less are dealing with the COVID 19 Pandemic patients and no big hospital in Srinagar has been spared exclusively for the non-covid 19 patients who suffer from other chronic ailments.
In a statement issued on Wednesday Wani said “with the prolonging lockdown and the increasing number of COVID positive cases a fear, chaos and confusion has bit the psyche of the people and nobody dares to escort the patients to the hospitals and attend them”, adding that “even our doctors feel scary to deal with the seemingly general patients who complain of other ailments” .Wani said, there is no clear picture of Corona virus infection mortality in Kashmir as some of the doctors themselves doubt the statistics of attributing the maximum deaths to COVID 19.
Wani said that non –covid patients are worst hit and the time has come that authorities do not delay the issue of considering their plea. The best way, Wani suggested is to nominate at least two big Srinagar hospitals for the non-covid patients, to treat them and to avoid the generalization of COVID 19 fear among medicos as well as the people in the same way arrangements may be made at district levels to provide medical facilities to non covid patients so that normal patients may have a sigh of relief. Wani also suggested that govt should make an advisory team of doctors to explore the research and survey regarding the emerging crisis.
