Kashmir Records Above-Normal Day Temperatures

Srinagar | November 07: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a spell of rain and snowfall from November 12 onwards as a Western Disturbance affects the region, weather officials said on Saturday. Weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry on November 8 and 9, while cloudy skies will prevail on November 10 and 11.
“Light spell of rain over plains and light snowfall over higher reaches at scattered places is expected towards on the evening or night of November 10,” an official of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said. Weather will remain generally cloudy on November 12 and 13, with light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall over higher reaches at many places, particularly towards the evening or night of November 12, officials said.
A separate prediction by Kashmir Weather Forecast indicated that the second Western Disturbance has gained intensity and is set to affect the region between November 12 and 14. Higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, and central and south Kashmir could receive moderate snowfall, bringing the season’s first snowfall to Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, and the plains of Pahalgam. Weather conditions are expected to improve from November 14.
Meanwhile, the MeT department advised farmers to continue harvesting and agricultural operations until November 10 and ensure safe crop storage. Travellers and transporters were also urged to plan journeys carefully, as snowfall may disrupt traffic on mountain passes, while thunder and gusty winds remain possible between November 10 and 12, reports said.
Day temperatures across most stations remained above normal on Friday, bulletin details revealed. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 23.2°C—5.9 degrees above average—and a minimum of 2.0°C. Qazigund recorded 22.3°C, Pahalgam 18.0°C, Kupwara 23.0°C, Kokernag 20.4°C, and Gulmarg 13.8°C. In Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 29.5°C and a minimum of 14.0°C, officials said.
