Srinagar | Nov, 07: Parents of schoolchildren across the winter zones of Kashmir division have urged the government to revise daily school timings amid plummeting morning temperatures, representatives said on Saturday. Parents requested new operating hours of 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM within Srinagar and 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM in peripheral areas.
“My two kids are primary-level students, and for more than a week now, they have been constantly telling me that they shiver in the cold when they leave for school,” parent Nasreena Jan said, urging immediate government intervention as winter conditions set in.
Echoing similar concerns, parent Showkat Ahmad Dar stressed the importance of student health during the new academic session, reports said. “As the new academic session started this week, the School Education Department must revise its current school timing in both the Srinagar and peripheries of Kashmir region,” Dar said, adding, “Nothing is more important than the health and wellbeing of our kids. If the government does not change the school timing, I would prefer to keep my kids at home rather than risking their health.”
“In view of the cold temperatures in the morning, the government must change the school timing from 10 am to 3 Pm in Srinagar and 10:30 Am to 3:30 outside the Srinagar Municipality Limits. The School Education Department must prioritize the health and wellbeing of the students,” parents collectively stated. Current schedules implemented in mid-October dictate timings of 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM inside Srinagar municipal limits and 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM outside, officials noted.
