Srinagar | Oct, 31: A five-day workshop focusing on health, road safety, environmental awareness, and community welfare commenced on Saturday at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar as part of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme. Organized in collaboration with the Department of Civil Engineering, the workshop, themed “Waste to Wealth and Vocal for Local,” aims to conclude on November 4.
Speaking on the occasion Director of NIT Srinagar, Prof. Anurag Misra, emphasized the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to converting industrial waste into valuable resources and developing low-carbon materials. He encouraged students to engage in environmentally responsible practices, such as reducing electricity usage and planting trees. The potential of renewable energy, particularly solar initiatives led by Professor Solanki from IIT Bombay, was also highlighted as a means to lessen reliance on conventional energy sources. Dr. Jitendra Gurjar, the Nodal Officer for the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, along with Programme Coordinators Dr. H. S. Pali and Dr. Gurjar, acknowledged the contributions of Prof. J. A. Bhat, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, in organizing the workshop. The importance of extending awareness initiatives beyond academic settings was stressed by Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman, who noted that such programs can foster civic responsibility among students. The workshop features expert lectures on road safety by Dr. P. K. Agrawal from MANIT Bhopal and Prof. M. S. Mir from NIT Srinagar, focusing on responsible road behavior and public awareness to prevent accidents. Additionally, a yoga session is included in the program. On November 1, a Dhanwantri medical camp will be held in collaboration with doctors from Maharashtra’s Hum Trust, offering first-aid awareness and health sessions, particularly addressing medical issues concerning women. The following days will cover environmental awareness and the promotion of local products and initiatives, reinforcing the workshop’s overarching themes.
