ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 31: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag, under the aegis of Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, held its 4th Quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting today, at the District Court, Anantnag.

The meeting was chaired by  Masarat Roohi, Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (I/C Principal District & Sessions Judge) Anantnag.

The meeting brought together officials from the judiciary, police, administration, and medical departments to discuss ways to ensure quick and fair trials for under trial prisoners.

The meeting was convened by Secretary DLSA Anantnag in compliance to the calendar of activities already issued by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

During the session, the committee reviewed four cases of under trial prisoners which were already identified by the office of the DLSA Anantnag. Each case was discussed in detail to understand the situation of the individuals and to suggest steps for speeding up the legal process.

The recommendations aimed at decongestion of the prisons by releasing the eligible prisoners under the categories already specified by NALSA.

He said that holding such meetings regularly is essential to ensure transparency, fairness, and efficiency in legal proceedings.

The UTRC meeting ended with a positive note wherein all the stakeholders present reaffirmed their commitment towards ensuring the Rights of Prisoners as given under Law and Legal Protection available to them is given topmost priority.

DLSA Anantnag continues to work for the protection of under trial prisoners’ rights, making sure they get speedy and fair trials. The UTRC meetings are an important step towards building a more just and efficient legal system.
