• Money trail traced across multiple payment platforms
• Accused allegedly channelled funds to support LeT/TRF activities, further arrests not ruled out
Srinagar|Oct, 30: In a major crackdown on alleged terror financing, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have busted a jail-linked funding network operating across the Union Territory and arrested 10 persons in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police said the network was allegedly involved in clandestinely collecting money from the public and channelising funds through multiple financial channels to facilitate terrorist activities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF).
The arrests followed a focused investigation into suspicious online financial transactions conducted through various payment platforms. Investigators analysed the transactions and traced money trails across multiple layers, leading to the identification of individuals allegedly connected with the financing network.
According to police, the investigation also uncovered links between the accused and terrorists and their associates lodged in different jails, pointing towards a wider network of alleged financial and logistical support.
Of the 10 arrested, eight are residents of Shopian and Pulwama districts in south Kashmir, while two belong to Kathua district of the Jammu region, indicating the inter-district spread of the alleged network.
Police said the funds collected were allegedly routed through established financial links to support terrorist activities. The money was also purportedly used to arrange logistical assistance, including smartphones, for facilitating terrorist operations.
An FIR (No. 231/2026) has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway to establish the complete financial network, identify additional links and ascertain the involvement of other individuals.
Police officials said the investigation was being expanded to trace the wider network and establish further financial linkages. More arrests have not been ruled out.
The crackdown assumes significance as investigators focus on tracing the financial channels allegedly used to sustain terror activities and the links between operatives outside and associates lodged in different prisons.
