Jammu|Oct, 26: The VIT Front has expressed concern over the arrest of Rakesh Handoo by Baramulla Police in connection with FIR No. 151/2026, reportedly registered under cyber-related provisions of law, and sought a fair examination of the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
In a press release issued after an urgent meeting chaired by its president, Dilip Pandita, the organisation said Handoo’s legal rights must be protected and all action taken against him should be based on evidence, due process and an impartial investigation.
The organisation said allegations of aggressive conduct or controversial statements could be examined under law but maintained that a person who has suffered terrorism deserved dignity, fairness and equal protection of the law.
The meeting also called for a fair and transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Rahul Bhat. It sought an impartial investigation into allegations that certain influential individuals may have acted unlawfully during events connected with the case, stating that accountability should be ensured wherever wrongdoing is established.
The organisation urged the authorities to examine the grounds and circumstances of Handoo’s arrest in accordance with law and ensure that no individual is subjected to selective or arbitrary treatment.
The statement reiterated that the law should apply equally to all and that allegations must remain open to impartial scrutiny.
