Srinagar : The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi, inaugurated a two-day national seminar-cum-workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence, Creativity and Content Generation: Opportunities and Challenges of a New Tomorrow” at the university’s Main Campus on Wednesday. Designed to dissect AI’s rapidly growing footprint on digital media, educational communication, and creative practices, the event brings together leading academicians, EMRC directors from across the country, delegates, faculty, and students to navigate emerging AI tools, media production dynamics, and responsible implementation in higher education.
Inaugurating the event, KU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized balancing technological adoption with human cognitive capacities, ethics, and critical thinking. “AI is reshaping the way knowledge is created, communicated and disseminated. It is important for universities to engage with these emerging technologies and ensure that innovation remains meaningful and responsible,” she said. Joining her at the podium, Keynote Speaker Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director CEC, underscored the transformative potential of integrating AI into multimedia content creation and learning frameworks, while KU Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal stressed the urgency for educational institutions to adapt swiftly and prepare students for an AI-enabled world.
The inaugural proceedings also offered rich perspectives on the cultural and institutional dimensions of technology. EMRC KU Senior Producer Shafqat Habib reflected on cinematic portrayals of AI, pointing out how films have long anticipated present-day debates around human-machine relationships and ethical dilemmas. Earlier, EMRC KU Director Prof. Syeda Afshana delivered the welcome address, highlighting the crucial role educational multimedia centers play in pioneering innovative content practices within a changing technological landscape.
Marking a major milestone during the opening ceremony, dignitaries officially released the Annual Report 2026 of EMRC KU alongside the latest CEC Newsletter. The inaugural session was seamlessly conducted by Ajaz-ul-Haque and concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tariq Abdullah, both Producers at EMRC KU. Over the next two days, the workshop will continue with intensive deliberations and interactive sessions focusing on hands-on AI content-generation tools, creative workflows, and the ethical challenges confronting modern media practitioners.
