NC president says no clarity on nomination of five MLAs; Cabinet expansion to follow LG’s return
Srinagar, Oct 19: National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday declined to comment at length on reports of MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi’s possible resignation, saying the decision was up to the parliamentarian.
“If someone wants to resign, they will resign. What can we do?” Abdullah said while speaking to reporters.
Asked about reports that the Lieutenant Governor was taking steps to nominate five members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdullah said there was no clarity on the matter and described the reports as speculation.
“These are all conjectures. Various things are being said from different quarters, but nothing has emerged yet,” he said.
On the proposed expansion of the Council of Ministers, Abdullah said the process would take place after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha returned, adding that the Lieutenant Governor had been unwell.
Meanwhile, referring to the attack on buses in Haryana, Abdullah said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had urged his Haryana counterpart to take immediate action to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He said those involved were attempting to create unrest in the country and called for compensation for the losses caused in the incident.
Abdullah also expressed hope that the Central Government would pay attention to the matter, warning that failure to address such incidents could lead to a deterioration in the situation.
