Jammu | October, 13: The body of a woman swept away by flash floods in Jammu’s Raipur Domana area was recovered after three days of extensive search operations by the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, and local police.
Officials said Ruksana Kouser went missing after a sudden surge of floodwater swept her away along with a car as she tried to call back her husband, Advocate Chowdhary Mohammad Kaleem, whose vehicle was engulfed by gushing water when he attempted to move it to safety.
Locals, police personnel, and SDRF teams launched an immediate search operation that continued for three days before her body was recovered. Heavy rainfall on October 11 brought Jammu to a standstill, causing widespread waterlogging, flooding of residential and commercial areas, damage to vehicles, and landslides along key roads. Recording 185.6 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the city set a new all-time October record, surpassing the previous high of 160 mm recorded in 1955, with rainwater inundating localities like Panjtirthi, Nagrota, Roop Nagar, and Raipur Domana.
