Jammu | Oct 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led Jammu and Kashmir in mourning the loss of former Cabinet Minister S. Harbans Singh, who passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Jammu at the age of 84.
Remembering his distinguished public service, Chief Minister Abdullah described the veteran leader’s passing as a profound loss to the region. Singh notably served as a cabinet minister in the government headed by former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah from 1996 to 2002, earning a reputation for dedicated service to the public.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister visited the late leader’s Gandhi Nagar residence to offer his personal condolences to the grieving family. He later attended the final rites at the Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground in Jammu, joining leaders and citizens in paying their final respects.
A host of prominent figures gathered to honor Singh’s memory, including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Minister Satish Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, and former Minister Ajay Sadhotra. Dignitaries and community members offered shared prayers for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
