• Says “Several arrests made in recent Srinagar crackdown”
Srinagar| Oct, 12: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Monday called for a collective fight against drug abuse, saying the protection of children from narcotics was a shared responsibility of society and the government.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Police Public School in Srinagar, the DGP said the anti-drug campaign was gaining momentum across the country and in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“These small children are the future of our country,” Prabhat said, emphasising the need to protect the younger generation from the dangers of drug abuse.
He said the campaign against narcotics was not the responsibility of any single institution but required coordinated efforts involving the government, law enforcement agencies and the public.
“This is a war being fought across society, with a whole-of-government approach,” he said, urging people to actively participate in the campaign and support efforts to build a drug-free society.
Referring to recent enforcement action against drug trafficking in Srinagar, the DGP said several arrests had been made as part of the crackdown, indicating intensified efforts to tackle the narcotics menace.
“Recently, in Srinagar, there has been a major upheaval. Many have been arrested,” he said, reiterating that sustained public participation was necessary to make the campaign effective.
“It is our duty that we participate in this fight and say no to drugs,” Prabhat added.
The DGP’s remarks came amid ongoing efforts by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies to counter drug abuse and trafficking in the Union Territory. The campaign has increasingly focused on public awareness and the involvement of communities in preventing substance abuse, particularly among young people.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Dare Devils team was flagged off by Prabhat for participation in the Ekta Diwas Parade at Kevadia, reaffirming the force’s commitment to national unity under the theme of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
The police said the participation also reflected its commitment to the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign and the broader objective of building a drug-free society.
The DGP called for collective responsibility in confronting the problem, stressing that protecting children and young people from drugs was essential for the future of the country.
He urged citizens to join the campaign and contribute to efforts aimed at preventing drug abuse and curbing the supply of narcotics.
