The ‘YuvaSanwad Mela’, held on October 9 under the theme ‘My Health, My Pride’, was organised across 200 designated institutions and their adopted villages through 15 NSS Regional Directorates.
Of the total outreach, 93,662 were youth participants, while 13,193 citizens were reached through activities in villages and slum communities.
The campaign featured interactive discussions, awareness stalls and cultural performances to educate young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote addiction-free communities.
A total of 509 seminars and open forums engaged 36,086 young people in discussions on the causes of substance abuse, peer pressure and community-based prevention. NSS volunteers also set up 396 informational stalls and kiosks, reaching 32,909 participants with information on the physical and psychological consequences of addiction and available counselling resources.
Additionally, 587 cultural performances, including street plays, skits and musical presentations, reached 24,944 people.
The campaign recorded participation by 48,269 female and 45,618 male youth. Digital outreach further supported the initiative, with young ambassadors generating 935 social media posts using the hashtag #NashaMuktYuva.
The Ministry said the first month’s activities laid the groundwork for the next phase of the campaign. Month 2 will focus on physical fitness and sports under the theme ‘Fit Youth, Addiction-Free Youth’, encouraging young people to adopt healthier lifestyles and recognise physical activity as part of substance abuse prevention.
The initiative aims to strengthen youth-led awareness and community participation in building a healthier and addiction-free India.
