Baramulla, October 09: Baramulla Police have made a significant breakthrough in a theft case registered at Police Station Kreeri, resulting in the recovery of approximately 100 kg of stolen copper sheets/plates and the identification of a suspect involved in the offence.

The case was registered at Police Station Kreeri on the complaint of Tariq Ahmad Zargar, resident of Kreeri, regarding the theft of approximately 100 kg of copper sheets from his residential premises during the intervening night of 07/08 October 2026.

During the course of investigation, technical and human intelligence were collected and analysed, leading to the identification of certain suspects. During questioning, Muzamil Ahmad Gojree, son of Gh. Mohammad Gojree, resident of Tilgam Bala, disclosed his involvement in the commission of the offence.

Investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly visited the complainant’s premises during the intervening night on a scooty and entered the premises with the intention of committing theft. He allegedly removed two jute bags containing approximately 50 kg of copper sheets each, transported the stolen property on the scooty and concealed it in an orchard beneath a heap of wooden logs.

Acting upon the disclosure, a police team proceeded to the identified location and conducted a search, during which approximately 100 kg of stolen copper sheets/plates were recovered from beneath the heap of wooden logs. The recovered property has been taken into possession as per prescribed legal procedure and is being dealt with as case property.

The recovery marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation and provides important corroborative evidence regarding the commission of the offence. Further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events, verify the involvement of any other person(s), and collect additional technical, documentary and forensic evidence.

Baramulla Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring effective investigation of criminal cases and bringing all persons found involved in the commission of offences to justice in accordance with law.
